Richard Silas’s (s-eye-lis) infectious sound catapulted him from playing the Toronto club and after hours scene, to performing at internationally acclaimed shows such as the The Virgin Music Festival, DefMix 20 Year Anniversary, Summer Music Conference etc., sharing the decks with many of the industry's top talent including Deadmau5, Paul Van Dyke, Roger Sanchez, Satoshie Tomiie, Moby, Hector Romero, David Morales, Lee Burridge, Sebastien, Brad Copeland, Danny Torrence, Switch, Flosstradamus and more.
Catching the tail end of the 90’s rave scene sparked Richard’s interest in the industry. Commencing with drum and bass, then progressing into open format and house music DJ sets has given Richard an appreciation for all genres of music, although house, deep house, techno, tech house, deep tech, nu disco would define his sound, staples of his roots in the vibrant Toronto underground. His versatility on the decks has made him a hot commodity, playing high profile shows and holding top residencies for the last 15 years
Stepping off the stage and into the studio, his productions have caught the attention of numerous prominent international labels. In 2011 Richard released his first four singles “Boogie Nights” - Attary Records (Columbia), “Don’t Stop” & “Get Down” - South Records (Panama), and “Hedonic Needs” - Shabulized Records (Germany). Following up in 2012 with “Every Time” on French label Undergroovy Productions. 2013 heavy gigging kept him out of the studio, but in 2014 he got back to it, and released his remix of industry legend Boza's I'm Falling ft. Sakine on Modified Records (Canada). 2015 saw another big single release on Modified Records - Who's Ready to Play, thumped dance floors across Europe and internationally all summer, and caught the attention of major compilations, being picked up by Wasabi Recordings on Deep Connection Vol.3, and On Air - We Prefer the Deeper Way, joining the hits by Oliver Huntemann, Stefano Noferini, Ramon Tapia, Nic Fanciulli, Jay Lumen, UMEK, Prok & Fitch, DJ Chus, D-Unity, Robin Schulz, Sonny Fodera and more. 2017 Richard returned to his after hours roots with MOVE, released on MOOM Records Weapons 3, along tracks by Sharam Jey and more.
With a busy schedule Richard continues to push his creative boundaries, balancing heavy gigging with studio time for his next EP, which draws inspiration from the rich diverse dance cultures of the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. The Saga Continues …
